In the summer of 2015, I interned with the League Partnerships division of Whistle Sports, a millennial sports media startup run entirely on social media platforms. The company creates Whistle Sports original content and helps develop content with digital sports influencers and professional athletes such as Dude Perfect, Brodie Smith, Venom Trickshots, TLN, and Paul Rabil.
The startup also has ever-evolving relationships with professional sports leagues such as the National Football League, NASCAR, Major League Baseball Advanced Media, and Major League Lacrosse.
Whistle Sports' ability to attract and retain the elusive teenage and young adult audience in today's media environment has made it a hot commodity for brands looking to advertise via brand integration to these viewers.
As a League Partnerships Intern, I sat in on weekly conference calls with league representatives and worked on several projects, including:
The "Intern Challenge" was the final project I worked on with a group of fellow interns. We were divided into groups of six and given the task of creating a back-to-school social media campaign for Powerade using at least two social media platforms for each idea. Our group brainstormed ideas, being careful not to use athletes or influencers already sponsored by a beverage. I laid out the ReadyMag presentation below, wrote the copy and created the graphics for each idea using Photoshop. My teammates reviewed and edited each part of the presentation and gave suggestions which were then incorporated into the final product.
